Arrange flanges, wound thread, bore and a loose end around a common axis, checking winding direction and ground contact.

A spool is not two discs filled with parallel lines. Flanges, thread winding and bore need a common axis, and thread texture must follow cylindrical turning. Draw a simplified sewing-thread spool lying on its side, showing how the ends contain the thread and where its loose end emerges. Arrange details manually in Aquarell without fibre simulation or automatic winding. This is a still-life study, not machine-loading instruction.

## Establish the axis of a lying spool

Use an approximately 1800×1400 px landscape canvas with a grey-cream background. Run the axis slightly from lower left to upper right, near end left and far end right. Mark both flanges with ellipses and connect their centres along one direction. Separate sketch, plastic flanges, winding, loose thread and ground shadow; choose muted blue-green thread. Both ellipses must describe one cylindrical viewpoint, not a nearly circular end opposite a sudden slit. If it resembles a dumbbell, shorten an implausible gap and establish continuous winding rather than distracting with fibres.

## Make the flanges slightly larger than the winding

Draw warm-white flange outlines and a smaller-diameter thread cylinder between them, leaving a modest rim. The near flange covers the left end of the winding; only the unobscured part of the far flange remains visible. Do not draw the whole far disc through blue-green thread. Hide winding to inspect both centres, then restore it for occlusion. Reduce winding diameter if it spills like a wool ball. Increase middle volume if two discs seem to hold a thin stick. Suggest modest flange thickness without inventing brands, threads or plastic specifications.

## Align the bore with the near-end ellipse

Place a small elliptical bore at the near flange centre, aligned with its outer ellipse. Use deep grey-brown rather than a solid black dot and add a narrow light lip on one side. Do not add a second off-centre circle. The bore and far-end centre should reconnect to the sketch axis. If it resembles a button, check inner wall and occlusion; if a crescent notch, move it away from the rim. Show only the interior visible from this angle, not the far end or tabletop through the spool. Keep exterior views separate from cutaways.

## Turn winding marks around the cylinder

Establish broad lighter upper-left and darker lower-right blue-green areas, then add a few circumferential winding marks. Keep them clearer across the front and shorter or lighter near turning edges, never straight across both flanges. Vary density to suggest layered turns without claiming measurable thread length. If it resembles barrel staves, check for marks mistakenly running along the axis. If a metal spring, weaken equally dark gaps and restore continuous soft volume. Slight irregularity is enough; avoid a densely serrated silhouette so the cylinder remains the first distant reading.

## Lead the loose thread out of the winding

Choose an exit on the near lower winding, lead a short segment tangentially, then let it settle onto the tabletop with its end inside the frame. Use slightly darker thread of similar width, not a sudden thick rope. It must not grow from the flange exterior or pass through the near-disc centre. Show thread and winding alone and trace root to end for gaps or branches. Soften bends and narrow an electrical-wire appearance. Recover a lost tabletop segment with local contrast rather than an equally black rail along the whole path.

## Ground both flanges and the loose thread

The lower flange edges approach the tabletop. Retain readable space and soft shadow under the winding instead of a solid black middle base. A very faint short shadow can accompany grounded loose thread, distinct from its raised root. Upper-left light casts shadow lower right; flange contacts are tighter than distant cast shadow. If floating, reconnect lowest rims to ground shadow. If melting into the table, narrow excessive contact darkness. Use shadow to locate the object, not hide inconsistent flange sizes or a misplaced thread exit.

## Inspect volume without winding texture

Keep a simple version containing flanges, broad winding values and loose thread, then compare it with the textured image. It should still read as a spool; otherwise repair axis, end occlusion and middle shading rather than adding denser marks. Check three relations: bore inside flange, winding between flanges, thread leaving winding. Change one fault at a time, not ellipse opening and light together. A standing variant needs new ellipses, contact and thread path. Rotating the lying finish ninety degrees while retaining its old shadow would also ignore the changed gravity direction.

## Check that exported texture does not become a barcode

Save the native layered artwork and inspect a PNG at publication size. If turns become regular black bars, reduce their number and vary spacing rather than sharpening them all. Recover the bore locally while retaining warm-white plastic. Check that the loose end has not joined background decoration; simplify the background if needed. Record a definite fault such as texture crossing the far upper flange for direct layer repair. Actual thread length, strength and machine compatibility are outside this image task. Finish when axis, contained winding and traceable loose end are readable.
