Separate people, places, time and shared events in alternating scenes, then test continuity at convergence rather than assuming intercut scenes are simultaneous.

A station scene followed by an interior does not automatically show simultaneous action. In ManYue, choose two strands that eventually interact, record them separately and test their shared event. This exercise concerns relationships between narrative strands rather than door-and-window geography within a scene, and does not require automatic character recognition or relationship diagrams.

## Choose a passage that includes the connection

Choose an already-read passage covering both strands and a clear connection, such as a sent and received message. Do not infer the entire work’s structure from a few exciting pages. Record edition, chapters, central figures and location landmarks, labelling the strands A and B. Handle only those two initially and mark other scenes as additional strands instead of forcing every shot into two camps. An unresolved ending is readable, but this exercise benefits from one testable point of contact.

## Identify each scene change

Read in original order, logging people, location, opening action, closing action and page references at each cut. Clothing or colour changes are supporting clues; favour stable landmarks and identifiable participants. Following one person into another room may not change strands, while the same place years apart may do so. A1, B1 and A2 are personal labels, not application chapter numbers. Preserve their page mapping so adjacent image files are not mistaken for scene boundaries.

## Order actions within each strand first

For A alone, establish an order such as obtaining a key, leaving and reaching the station; separately order B’s letter, waiting and received message. Do not yet draw simultaneous links across strands. Where action is omitted, record a state transition without inventing travel mode or elapsed minutes. Local order is often better supported than cross-strand order. Verify that recurring objects are actually the same before using them as links; two phones do not establish a connected call.

## Find a verifiable shared anchor

A shared anchor may be responses within one call, fireworks seen by both parties, or recognisably matching announcements. Record what each strand shows and why they represent one event. Different clocks, message delays and reported speech can undermine a simple match. In an invented example, A saying a vehicle arrived and B seeing one does not establish the same vehicle; its number, location or continuous dialogue provides stronger support. Without a shared anchor, leave relative timing unknown.

## Separate simultaneity, precedence and uncertainty

Label supported relations as A-before-B, overlapping around a shared event, or not yet comparable. Suspenseful intercutting is not a clock. Even matching announcements may be replays, so inspect context. Short statements suffice without a polished diagram. When later evidence changes a relation, preserve the earlier inference and new support, identifying the changed link instead of rewriting away the misunderstanding. The result is a revisable reading record, not a falsely second-accurate schedule.

## Check each character’s knowledge at convergence

At a meeting, call or exchange, list separately what A knows and what B does not. Seeing both strands gives the reader information characters may lack. Connect misunderstandings in dialogue to preceding evidence in each strand, explaining why one line means different things to each participant. Do not import later revelations into their earlier knowledge. If the meeting is imagined or reported, label that narrative layer before treating it as an actual convergence; a dream cannot automatically connect two action sequences.

## Preserve references for cuts and convergence

Bookmark two important cuts and the convergence page, or keep an external location log with chapters, page identities and landmarks. After leaving the reader, revisit A’s scenes together and then B’s to catch misclassified scenes. Page bookmarks may need character and panel descriptions. Recheck references after a remote revision or file replacement; matching titles do not guarantee inherited positions. Preserve the original reading sequence rather than physically splitting the comic into separate strands.

## Challenge the connections and finish

Finish with two internal sequences, at least one shared anchor and unresolved relations. Explain what cross-strand evidence adjacent shots lack and why matching clocks need checks for day, system and clock identity. If the strands do not connect as expected, widen the context and retain uncertainty rather than rearranging pages to repair the plot. End with three sentences on how convergence changes character understanding or reader expectations, each with a reference, so rereading tests particular relationships rather than a plot summary.
