Record one term’s definitions, examples and interpretations across three chapters, verifying differences against original passages without automatic dictionary merging.

The same term may gain qualifications or change its subject across chapters. Choose a term that actually occurs in a book and record three uses in a personal glossary. Keep the glossary in your notes or an external list; this workflow does not claim automatic term extraction, comprehensive definition finding or synonym detection.

## Fix one book edition and one term

Choose an authorised, working edition and record title, author, translator and file source. Begin with one term visible in an actual passage, not an assumed recurring word. Preserve the original. Leave translation comparison outside this first task so chapter differences are not confused with edition differences. State one question, such as whether a later use changes an earlier qualification, rather than attempting a universal dictionary. A small completed check is more useful than many terms without traceable sources.

## Record the first use and its qualifications

Read the whole first passage and record the term, chapter, locating quotation and explicit conditions. Highlighting two words is not the same as collecting a definition, which may be nearby. Use supported notes/highlights and verify their return location, or hand-record image-only material. Separate original text from provisional personal interpretation. If this occurrence is merely a mention rather than a definition, label it honestly instead of inventing a fuller explanation.

## Find verifiable uses in later chapters

Use contents or an actually supported search scope to find later occurrences, reading each in context. Matches may quote another speaker, give a counterexample or use another domain meaning. Select two passages relevant to the question rather than copying every result. For absent results, check spelling variants and text availability before inferring non-use. Record purpose and a locating quotation for each. Do not pad the comparison with repeated same-chapter sentences; useful comparison matters more than reaching a count.

## Compare the passages through stable fields

Use stable fields for term, location, source conditions, subject, example and personal question. Keep sources in notes and a wider comparison in an external document if needed; no specialised glossary database is assumed. Compare explicit statements before summarising. Different examples need not mean changed definitions, and added conditions need not invalidate all earlier uses. Record agreements, differences and unresolved relationships separately rather than forcing uncertainty into a misleading single definition.

## Preserve original wording when names vary

Retain abbreviations, foreign terms or alternative translations exactly and record specific evidence for a possible relationship, such as the author’s parenthesis or continuous discussion of the same object. Do not merge by surface similarity or replace quoted wording with your preferred term. Keep any external dictionary explanation separate; general usage does not override chapter-specific conditions. No unverified built-in lookup control is required. Return to the passage to decide what is being discussed.

## Return to all passages from the glossary

Leave the current page and relocate all three passages using only glossary locations and quotations. Verify edition and content rather than screen page counts after reflow. Use saved textual clues if direct note navigation fails instead of deleting records first. Reassess your summary against recovered conditions, correcting personal interpretations with a date while retaining accurate source text. This makes the glossary both useful for review and traceable beyond memory.

## Export the record with an explicit scope

Export important notes through available controls and reopen them externally, checking term, chapter, source and interpretation remain distinct. Store the companion glossary clearly and preserve the book separately; notes are not a complete book backup. Name the edition and tested term/locations rather than claiming whole-book coverage. On another device, verify the matching file separately from reading-data sync. Add later uses through the same fields and revisit the summary without discarding verified sources.

## Inspect context before merging conflicting meanings

For apparent contradictions, check counterarguments, quoted speakers, changed scope and omitted negations first. The same spelling for different subjects may need separate cross-referenced entries rather than a forced merge. Diagnose search scope/text availability without assuming automatic extraction. For missing-looking records, check filters, edition identity and exports. Keep source wording, personal understanding and unresolved questions distinct so provisional ideas do not become attributed definitions.
