Book Isle brings local ebooks and personal NAS libraries onto an iPhone or iPad bookshelf. It is for readers who already have book files and want to organise them, read and keep notes. The Chinese app name is 书屿.
Begin with a local book or a server?
For your first use, prepare one DRM-free TXT, EPUB or PDF and check its title, table of contents and text. Once reading works as expected, add a remote source. WebDAV, SMB, OPDS and Calibre expose different services; choose the interface your server actually enables rather than configuring every entry point.
Seeing a title in a remote list and having a complete download are different states. Before reading offline, disconnect the network and open the chapters you need. When changing devices, handle reading data and book files separately.
Understand what each format supports
Alongside TXT, EPUB and PDF, Book Isle has handling options for Markdown, HTML, FB2, RTF, DOCX, CBZ and other formats. A converted document may read differently from its original layout. Check paragraphs, images and the table of contents after importing.
In the checked version, MOBI, AZW, AZW3, CBR and DJVU mainly support management and sync. A format appearing on the shelf does not establish full reading support. To read now, supply a supported format; changing a filename extension does not convert a file.
Keep your reading records
Bookmarks mark places to revisit, notes hold your thoughts, and tags or reading status help organise the library. Try each with one test book before organising a large collection so the different records are easy to understand.
WebDAV sync handles reading data. After syncing, check that the second device has the same book, that its contents correspond and that progress opens in the right place. A success message does not mean all book files have moved across.
Learning path
The 20 Book Isle tutorials cover a first import, shelf organisation, reading different formats, NAS connections, Calibre and data sync. Each focuses on a task and includes a way to check the result.
Book Isle centres on ebooks and reading records. For a collection mainly made of comics, also see ManYue and choose according to your file types and library source.
Version and sources
Checked on 23 October 2026: the China App Store listed 1.1.3, requiring iOS or iPadOS 15.6 or later. This introduction uses the Book Isle App Store page, Apple’s lookup API and relevant feature entry points. You provide the book files and servers; Book Isle does not include an online bookstore.
