Check display edges in iCouldPlay with a numbered test border
Use a self-made border and circle to compare visible edges, caption room and scaling on the intended viewing target.
On this page
Visible characters do not prove that all four edges remain visible. Put a numbered border into a permitted short video and use iCouldPlay to inspect edges, proportions and caption room. This assumes no casting, television calibration or measuring instruments in the app. If you already use another display connection, treat it as a separate observation. Check known marks rather than inferring correct scaling from black bars that may already belong to the film.
Make a sample with known boundaries
In an external drawing or video tool, make a landscape frame with top, bottom, left and right labels, three nested thin borders, a central circle, a horizontal line and corner numbers. Keep text readable rather than against the outermost pixel. Preserve production dimensions and a reference image after export, checking that borders are encoded content rather than editor selection guides. This is self-made media, not an automatic iCouldPlay calibration mode or a copied professional colour chart.
Keep a reference for the exported file
Compare the exported first frame with the production reference: all corners must exist, the circle must remain round and borders must not already be cropped. Repair an altered export before investigating the player. Record the filename and duration; a few stable seconds are sufficient. If export dimensions are unknown, make only relative observations of visible marks rather than claiming precise measurements. A known complete reference makes later missing corners interpretable.
Observe the initial playback state
Open the sample without pinching or dragging, recording initial display state and device orientation. Pause on the intact card and inspect all corner numbers and nested borders. Letterboxing can preserve proportions and is not itself a fault. Let playback controls disappear before judging the lower edge so interface occlusion is not recorded as video cropping. Keep file and orientation fixed initially to make subsequent comparisons interpretable.
Change one available display control at a time
If the installed version offers fit, fill or zoom, inspect the same frame and record the actual labels. Do not search for an option that is absent. Filling may sacrifice edges while fitting may preserve marks with empty space; choose according to the task. Change one control and inspect the same corners rather than assuming a larger subject is better. Restore the initial state after the round; reopen the sample if needed instead of stacking gestures into an unreproducible state.
Separate cropping from stretching
Missing corners with a round central circle suggest cropping, whereas intact corners with a stretched circle call for a proportion check. Record these separately rather than calling every difference low resolution. Verify the source circle, then view from a normal position. An angled photograph introduces perspective and cannot establish actual screen geometry. These are hypotheses to compare with the file and output path, not diagnoses of a decoder or hardware component from one circle.
Add captions in a separate round
After establishing borders, add self-written two-line captions and check overlap with corner labels, edges and playback controls. Fix the picture before changing one available caption style control; do not adjust text size and video scaling together. Include one longer ordinary cue because two short lines do not establish good wrapping for every sentence. Record the chosen compromise between full picture and readable captions rather than presenting one position as universally safe on all devices.
Record a new viewing target separately
For another screen reached through an existing connection, record device, connection and display settings afresh. Play the identical card before the film and compare the same corner marks. Interrupted connections, mirroring and different frame shapes can alter conditions, but this exercise requires neither new accessories nor new permissions. Keep a local-only conclusion if the output path is unknown. Notes should identify the screen and source file even for someone who sees only a reference photograph.
Keep task-specific viewing choices
For composition, detail and caption reading, record a choice and its cost: complete borders with empty space, or a larger subject with outer marks missing. Permanent zoom changes annotations, actions and caption room along with the picture. Recheck a short reference when changing orientation, media or screen before reusing a setting. Keep the card and original reference, ensuring temporary captions did not overwrite real captions. The result records personal viewing choices, not universal display calibration.

Checked on November 3, 2026 against the official iCouldPlay App Store listing and Apple public lookup: version 1.1.1, requiring iOS / iPadOS 15.0 or later. This exercise uses the public scope of file import, network sources, playback, captions and progress. Check controls in your installed version. Self-made samples, manual records and external file preparation are workflows, not newly promised automatic features. No physical-device or private-server test is claimed.
