File preparation and support handover

Estimate storage for offline iCouldPlay preparation

Estimate a viewing set from actual file sizes, separating bitrate, bytes, available space and temporary copies.

Equal-duration videos can have very different sizes. A vague remaining-space figure or confusing network megabits with file megabytes produces poor plans. Build a manual table for three permitted videos rather than assuming iCouldPlay predicts every download, transcode or cache. Prefer actual sizes from Files or the source, reserve room for import and normal device use, and verify opening and offline playback afterward: capacity alone is not proof of availability.

Inventory three actual files

Choose short, medium and long ordinary videos, recording name, edition, duration, source size and displayed unit. Start with one source to avoid directly adding decimal and binary figures from different interfaces. Mark approximate sizes as estimates and allow for rounding. Do not substitute poster size, a subtitle file or part of an archive listing for the complete video. Each row must identify the actual planned edition rather than an average for an unknown set of versions.

Distinguish bytes from bits

File sizes commonly use MB or GB while network or media rates use Mbps. For a rough estimate, convert bits to bytes before multiplying by seconds and explicitly use decimal units. A total rate of eight megabits per second for six hundred seconds gives about six hundred megabytes as an illustration, not an iCouldPlay bitrate. Containers, additional tracks and variable rates create differences. Prefer a known actual file size over a formula when that information is available.

Avoid treating an average rate as a guarantee

Use a dependable total average rate for whole-file estimates, not one frame’s instantaneous rate. A video-track figure may omit audio and other content. Record assumptions and unknowns so an estimate does not later become a supposed measurement. Storage demand and stable streaming are different questions: an average bitrate below one speed-test result cannot guarantee smooth remote playback. The table does not replace network, server or decoder troubleshooting.

Sum the intended viewing set

Sum the three files actually needed and list optional material separately rather than including an entire server folder. Check for duplicate imports and alternate quality editions, listing captions and supporting material separately if relevant. Label the total as the target set, not the whole library. An unknown size leaves the estimate incomplete; do not declare everything will fit. Narrowing the set first is easier to control than deleting unfamiliar content under pressure and reduces unnecessary transfers.

Record current available device space

Use existing system storage information to record current available space, its unit and observation time rather than nominal device capacity. Other apps, photos and system activity can change it, so treat it as a snapshot. Reserve suitable room for ordinary use and temporary work without inventing one universal percentage. If space is already tight, reduce the viewing set or use an already verified alternative rather than deleting poorly understood system data. The table should support choices, not pressure wholesale cleanup.

Observe one import’s extra space

Import the smallest sample and note approximate space before, during and after completion. This does not precisely measure iCouldPlay’s cache algorithm: system figures can lag and other activity can interfere. The observation can reveal possible simultaneous copies or temporary use needing investigation. Wait for stabilization before judging, and never delete an original during transfer to save room. One small success does not guarantee larger files, particularly when a source may transcode, segment or repackage content.

Verify offline reading beyond capacity

After import, check picture, sound and the ending, including source identity and readable content. For offline use, test separated positions under controlled conditions where the original connection can be restored. An appearing card or reduced space does not prove complete playback. Track verified and unverified files separately. A small M3U8 playlist does not represent the size of its remote media segments; understand those dependencies before planning offline viewing.

Keep estimates distinct from observations

Keep the planned total, approximate post-import change, playback result and unknowns, adjusting future reserves for comparable sources. Do not turn one difference into a universal storage multiplier or replace actual figures with neat theoretical ones. Before cleanup, identify temporary copies, cache and original media and retain a recoverable source. Describe this three-file preparation record rather than promising a fixed number of viewing hours per capacity. Selecting the set, verifying files and reserving room matter more than memorizing a bitrate formula.

Checked on November 3, 2026 against the official iCouldPlay App Store listing and Apple public lookup: version 1.1.1, requiring iOS / iPadOS 15.0 or later. This exercise uses the public scope of file import, network sources, playback, captions and progress. Check controls in your installed version. Self-made samples, manual records and external file preparation are workflows, not newly promised automatic features. No physical-device or private-server test is claimed.
