Reading and organisation
Prepare ManYue for offline reading: check the whole comic before leaving
Check beginning, middle and end pages, chapter changes, reopening and disconnected access to distinguish local copies from remote covers and build a verified travel list.
On this page
Being able to open a comic at home does not mean you can read the entire book after losing network access. Covers, catalogs, and a few recently viewed pages from a remote library may be cached while the remaining pages stay on the server. ManYue's offline capability applies to content that has been imported or fully downloaded. Before leaving, treat finding a book, saving its content, and reading it offline as three separate steps.
Start with a small, specific travel reading list
Choose the books and chapters you actually intend to read, and note whether each comes from a local file or a remote library. Specify the reading range for each book, such as chapters one through three, instead of writing a vague 'entire comic series.' Retain originals for local sources. For remote sources, confirm that you have permission to download and that the current account can access the required content.
Check the device's available storage and network conditions so downloads can finish before departure. Do not estimate storage from the number of covers or treat a browsable catalog as a completed transfer. For a large reading list, preparing content in batches is easier to verify than queuing everything just before leaving. If the network is unstable, reduce the batch size first so multiple unfinished tasks do not obscure one another.
Start by confirming a complete local-file import
After importing a file through the local comics entry point, check the import result and open it from the local list. Jump to the middle and end to confirm that more than the first screen is readable. For multiple chapters, check each one you plan to read; success with the first chapter does not guarantee the rest. Fully download and import cloud-drive files first. A cloud placeholder in the system is not an offline source.
Retain records of import failures and resolve them before arranging the next batch. For very large files, confirm that they actually open on the current device rather than relying only on supported extensions. Keep the original files temporarily after importing. Decide whether to reorganize the source directory only after the offline check passes, so a copy remains available for reimport if a problem appears.
Explicitly download remote books
Entries on WebDAV, SMB, and server libraries may offer different actions, such as online reading and downloading. For offline preparation, use the download entry point supported by the current source and confirm the task status in download management. If an entry offers only a catalog or does not support the current reading method, tapping its cover several times does not constitute a download.
A queued task is merely scheduled, and increasing progress is not the same as successful completion. Wait for the target item to reach the completed state, then find the corresponding content in the local library. Handle failed or paused tasks in a batch individually. Completed items elsewhere in the list do not mean the entire batch is available offline. Membership permissions and server capabilities also affect the available actions; follow the current prompts.
Perform four checks without a network connection
After importing or downloading, turn off the device's network connections when it is safe and convenient. Return to the app and open a book from the local-content entry point instead of simply leaving an existing online page open. Check the beginning, middle, end, and another chapter in turn, confirming that the images actually display. Seeing only the page where you last stopped does not prove that the whole book has been saved.
Exit the reader and reopen the book to ensure that you are not relying on a temporary state in a page that never closed. Record the specific chapters that failed. Restore the network, complete only those chapters, then disconnect and check again. Do not clear caches or delete local copies during verification: doing so changes the conditions you just tested. Complete this process before leaving rather than trying it for the first time without network access.
Example: prepare three short stories for a two-hour commute
Suppose your list contains one local PDF, one CBZ on WebDAV, and two chapters from a server library. Import the PDF and check its first and last pages. Download the CBZ and confirm that the task finishes. Then check download support and completion for each server chapter. Put the content in an easy-to-find reading group, but base offline readiness on the presence of local content.
Without a network connection, open each item on your list and mark it readable or record the point of failure. If the second server chapter is incomplete, address only that chapter rather than redownloading a PDF that already passed inspection. Keep a short final checklist showing what has been checked and what still requires a network. Even if your reading plans change, you will not mistake other books in the remote catalog for content already with you.
Keep content available offline after preparation
Keep verified local copies for the duration of the trip. After changing a server address, moving remote files, or clearing device storage, check again that the content remains local. Do not assume that these actions cannot affect offline access. App data synchronization mainly synchronizes reading state; it cannot restore comic pages that were never downloaded.
Why does reading still stop midway after many pages have been cached?
A cache serves content you have already accessed and may not contain an entire chapter or book. Prepare for offline reading by importing or fully downloading content, then check several locations without a network connection. Do not interpret cache size as a completion percentage or rely on pages you happened to browse for important offline reading.
Both devices use the same iCloud account. Can the other device read offline too?
You cannot infer that. Reading history and favorites can synchronize, but comic files still need to be imported or downloaded on the other device. Each device you plan to take with you must pass its own offline check. Matching progress does not mean matching content copies.
What to read next
- Check and retry the download queue.
- Restore reading state and comic files separately.
- Safely free storage after preparing for offline reading.
