Narrative and context checks
ManYue testimony versus pictures: preserve contradictions before judging truth
Record testimony, visible information and later evidence separately, checking viewpoint and narrative layer before labelling disagreement an authorial error.
On this page
A character says a room is empty while a hand appears in the image. This could involve concealment, limited viewpoint or missing context. Use an already-read passage in ManYue to compare testimony with visual evidence. The task establishes what the contradiction supports without automatically calling the character a liar or every discrepancy a drawing or technical error.
Choose a locatable statement
Choose a testable claim such as someone never visiting or a box remaining closed, rather than an emotional exclamation. Read surrounding pages and record speaker, listener, time wording and any reported source. Quote only what is needed and retain chapter, page and panel. For captions, distinguish inner thought, remembered narration and an unidentified narrator rather than assuming a box means omniscience. Start with one claim so different speakers’ statements are not merged.
Describe exactly what the image shows
In a separate field, record only visible facts, such as a shoe tip under a door rather than someone hiding. Check whether the image is the present scene, an imagined illustration, a memory or another location. A hand, shadow or object fragment may not identify a person. After zooming, return to the full page to inspect borders and adjacent panels. Resolve missing images or unloaded edges before analysing an intentional contradiction.
Preserve the claim’s qualifiers
“Never visited” differs from “did not visit today”; “I did not see anyone” differs from “nobody was there.” Check time, place, negation and accessible information without expanding casual wording into an absolute claim. In an invented scene, B standing behind A does not disprove A saying “I did not see B”; A may be unaware. Keep the original wording, paraphrase and scope separately. Weaken a paraphrase that exceeds the source instead of deleting qualifications to manufacture conflict.
List at least two distinguishable explanations
List possibilities such as deliberate concealment and an obstructed view, then identify evidence that could distinguish them: a later admission of knowledge or a panel showing the obstruction. Explanations need different expectations for the actual images, not empty alternatives about authorial intention. Retain uncertainty and allow a third explanation, including different times for speech and image. Do not quote your inference or turn it into a confident bookmark label that masquerades as fact.
Keep the reader’s knowledge boundary when checking later pages
Search later evidence within the completed range, separating what readers knew then from what they learn later. A revelation may explain an earlier conflict without belonging in the original observation. Record the chapter and whether it supports concealment, misidentification or neither. Set a discussion stopping point when reviewing a volume to avoid spoiling another reader. Reading progress helps locate pages; it does not describe a character’s knowledge or automatically remove spoilers from external notes.
Check edition and file differences
If another reader lacks the hand in the purported same scene, verify edition, chapter and complete page before considering revision or cropping. A shared crop is not the entire evidence and does not establish a reader fault. Compare the edges with your authorised source file. Different translations require appropriate language knowledge or reliable explanation when comparing qualifiers; different word length does not establish opposite meaning. Separate delivery differences from narrative interpretation until the materials match.
Test returning to the evidence pair
Save supported references for the statement and decisive picture and pair them externally. On one page, distinguish the panels so the testimony does not displace visual evidence. Leave and return, reading the wording and full image without your conclusion to check for bias. Share a short location and spoiler-conscious question instead of a chapter copy. After changing sources, reverify the pair and wording; equal titles do not guarantee identical translations, cropping or coordinates.
Finish with a conclusion and remaining uncertainty
A finished record includes the claim’s scope, visible facts, alternatives, distinguishing evidence and references. Calling a lie requires support for knowledge and intentional contradiction, not merely a later-disproved statement. If evidence is insufficient, conclude only that a discrepancy exists. A suspected drawing error also needs comparison evidence and should not be presented as an official finding. Keep one useful follow-up question rather than treating every line as suspicious and overwhelming ordinary reading.

Checked on November 4, 2026: Apple public version information lists ManYue 2.0.4, requiring iOS / iPadOS 15.0 or later. Feature scope follows the official App Store description and the installed version.
