Yearn game import, controls and saves learning path
Prepare your own games and platform files, then check touch or physical controls, saves, offline play, display layouts and launch issues.
Yearn does not include game ROMs. With your own files ready, take one game through import, launch, saving and loading again before organising a larger collection.
A successful import does not guarantee every game is compatible. A save entry, a cloud-sync indicator and successfully restored progress are separate checks. Keep original files and existing progress when investigating a difference.
Import & game library
Prepare games you are entitled to use and check formats, companion files and the library.
Yearn getting started: import your own first game and exit safely
Begin with a ROM you supply, then import it, confirm its platform, check controls, save manually and verify after exit for a clear first-use workflow.
Yearn file recognition: distinguish platform formats and disc companion files
Check ROM names, extensions, platforms and companion files, distinguishing single-file games, PS1 disc images and archives to reduce import mistakes.
Yearn folder import: organise a batch of games and check omissions
Organise folders and matching filenames before importing, then verify each platform and sample, understanding the relationship between batch copies and original files.
Yearn BIOS setup: check required files for each platform
Understand the different roles of ROM and BIOS, check required PS1 files and NDS status, retain source information and investigate missing-file messages after import.
Organise the Yearn library: search, favourites, covers and recent games
Build a searchable imported-game list with platform filters, sorting, search and favourites, distinguishing cover images from runnable game files.
Controls & display
Check touch controls, physical controllers, dual-screen layout and running speed separately.
Yearn virtual controller: adjust size, opacity and haptic feedback
Compare virtual-controller size and opacity in a fixed game scene, checking portrait, landscape, directional and action buttons to find a comfortable grip layout.
Yearn Bluetooth controller: pair and check button responses
Pair the controller in iOS, then check recognition, directions and action buttons in Yearn, distinguishing system connection, app input and game response.
Troubleshoot Yearn controller input: button positions, D-pad and stick dead zones
Use a fixed scene to check physical-button positions and stick response, avoid mistaking different letter labels for faults, and adjust the dead zone in small steps.
Yearn landscape and dual screens: give the game and controls their own space
Use a safe game scene to check orientation, controller size and dual-screen content, distinguishing system rotation lock, device layout and the game’s original aspect ratio.
Yearn speed controls: fast-forward through waits and slow down actions
Compare normal, fast and slow speed step by step, checking button actions, sound, picture and save state, and distinguish running speed from turbo-fire controls.
Saves & offline play
Distinguish save types and verify progress by reopening a game and testing after sync.
Yearn save states: keep key progress in separate slots
Distinguish Save from Load, record different scenes in two slots and verify loading in the same session and after reopening, avoiding overwriting your only progress.
Yearn in-game saves and save states: verify that saved progress loads
Distinguish the game’s own save menu from emulator states, test save, exit, reopen and load, and understand why autosave settings do not replace a restore check.
Yearn iCloud save sync: check cloud status before switching devices
Check iCloud availability and manual sync, distinguish copying cloud files from actually loading progress in a game, and keep verifiable local records before changing devices.
Prepare Yearn for offline travel: games, BIOS and saves
Use airplane mode before travelling to check local games, required BIOS files, controllers and saves, separating online information and cloud placeholders from files that really run offline.
Yearn storage cleanup: back up before deleting games and saves
Distinguish ROMs, save states, in-game saves and screenshots before cleanup, keep independent copies and confirm which data each deletion affects.
Further settings & troubleshooting
Adjust aspect ratio and check screen mirroring, disc tracks, screenshots and launch problems.
Yearn screen size: adjust scaling, aspect ratio and margins
Use circles, text and screen edges to judge display scaling, distinguishing useful enlargement, stretched proportions and controls obscuring the picture.
Yearn on a TV: check picture and delay with iPhone screen mirroring
Use Apple’s system screen mirroring to show Yearn on a compatible TV, then check connection, orientation, audio and input delay separately.
Import PS1 disc images into Yearn: CUE, BIN and multiple tracks
Organise PS1 disc images you lawfully hold, distinguish track descriptions from data files, and check filename references, companion imports and causes of launch failure.
Yearn screenshots: save a game image and organise your records
Save a game image in Yearn, confirm it in Photos, distinguish game captures from system screenshots and keep identifiable progress or troubleshooting records.
Troubleshoot Yearn launch: from a successful import to a running game
Separate launch failures into file, platform, BIOS, runtime and input stages, using small repeatable tests to identify what needs attention.
