Media identity and viewing handover
Map continuity across separate iCouldPlay media parts
Map order, junctions and resume notes for two independent files belonging to one work.
On this page
When one work is split across two independent files, the second has its own time origin. This differs from two episodes in one file and from two release editions. Use permitted parts to map order, content junction, caption basis and personal resume notes. iCouldPlay opens the real files; automatic seamless joining, merged progress and retiming are not assumed. Confirm the pair belongs together before joining viewing simply because posters match.
Inventory both actual files
Record each name, duration and location, preserving original naming and source notes. Temporary “first” and “second” labels cannot come solely from current sorting, which may use size, date or name. Record supplied part numbers and verify content; otherwise mark their relationship unconfirmed. Avoid bulk renumbering or deleting an apparent duplicate. Identifiable files give each boundary and time an explicit owner.
Verify order and the content junction
Inspect a short passage before the first ending and after the second beginning, noting actions, people or explanation anchors. Recaps, openings and overlap need not immediately be cut away. Check for gaps, repetition or a different edition. Separate observed junctions from unknowns; a plausible summed duration does not prove completeness. Verify provenance or preserve uncertainty instead of embedding a guessed order in formal filenames.
Bind each time to its file
Label a resume time with its part, such as about minute six of part two, rather than storing only six minutes. An optional cumulative note is not a seek time in the second file. Openings and recaps also make cumulative duration different from unique content length. File-relative time is sufficient; do not prioritize a neat virtual whole-film time that cannot be used. Pair each number with a content anchor to prevent confusion between parts.
Check each caption file’s time basis
Load matching captions for each part and inspect clear utterances near beginning, middle and end. Whole-film timing in part-two captions may require a matching file or an externally edited copy, but subtracting part-one duration is not a guaranteed fix where overlap or cuts exist. Establish language, edition and dialogue correspondence first. Preserve originals and label test copies by part. Successful part-one captions do not prove a shared basis for part two; record both results independently.
Check library entries for part confusion
Compare entry title, source and duration in iCouldPlay, confirming the files still match your observations. Identical posters can reflect shared work metadata without establishing playback order. Use available naming or an ordinary personal list without inventing a part-merging button. For a missing entry, inspect scan scope and source before duplicating files to manufacture visibility. Verified metadata-to-file relationships prevent resume notes from pointing to the wrong similar card.
Check the transition during manual continuation
Play near the first ending, open the verified next file and start before its anchor, checking missed actions or repeated explanation. Manual continuation is sufficient; no automatic background sequence or rapid-switch stress test is required. Recheck track, caption language and speed rather than assuming all settings transferred because a picture appeared. Before pausing a handover, note current file and position. Preserve the steps that actually worked instead of relying on poster memory.
Recheck after replacing a part
Before using old times for a higher-quality or redownloaded part, verify its content range and identity. Re-encoding, openings and edits can move positions despite unchanged names. Recheck the junction after replacing even one part. Preserve originals until replacement copies pass and retain a recoverable source before deletion or moving. Successful playback of two files is not a complete integrity or edition-authentication check.
Keep ordering notes and unresolved details
Keep the file pair, order, junction anchors, caption bases and current resume point, with unconfirmed gaps or overlap separate. Another reader should know which file comes first, where to continue and which conclusions remain provisional. Revalidate for a new source rather than treating one map as universal. Clean only disposable copies, not unchecked parts for folder tidiness. An explicit continuation map is useful even without a virtual merged entry.

Checked on November 4, 2026 against the official iCouldPlay App Store listing and Apple public lookup: version 1.1.1, requiring iOS / iPadOS 15.0 or later. This exercise uses the public scope of file import, network sources, playback, captions and progress. Check controls in your installed version. Self-made samples, manual records and external file preparation are workflows, not newly promised automatic features. No physical-device or private-server test is claimed.
