Loading and source-specific checks
ManYue preload-count comparison: balance page waits and resource use
Compare a few preload settings with a fixed chapter and reading pace, separating first requests from cached pages and from complete offline downloads.
On this page
Preloading may reduce next-page waits while increasing concurrent image work. Compare a small number of settings for your files, network and pace, without inventing a universal optimum or treating prefetched images as a full offline copy.
Fix content and conditions
Choose one authorised stable chapter and record source, image type, orientation and network. Keep unrelated downloads quiet and compare one representative content type. Select a short adjacent-page segment and note the starting scene. This is a practical comparison, not a rigorous device benchmark.
Record preload and processing settings
Record the current value, available range and scope. Keep mode and optional processing fixed. Start with a modest offered value. Skip absent controls and avoid simultaneous changes to preloading, processing and automation, which make the outcome uninterpretable.
Separate first access from revisits
Read at normal pace, noting complete images and visible waits on first access versus return. A fast revisit can reflect cache rather than a preload improvement. Do not wipe all cache between runs or claim precise speedups from unmatched cold/warm conditions. Label any alternative comparable segment clearly.
Increase one step for comparison
Raise one step with other conditions fixed and compare a similar segment at the same pace. Prefer a smaller value if there is no useful benefit. Judge several pages rather than one fast image. Return to the baseline if the workload becomes unsuitable instead of stress-flipping to find a limit.
Treat large images as another case
Compare large images separately after verifying source integrity. Decoded dimensions differ from compressed size, so do not average unlike content into an artificial optimum. Use supported scoped exceptions where useful. Preloading cannot repair encoding, missing content or absent source detail.
Verify offline reading separately
Complete authorised downloads or local imports and verify beginning, middle and end offline independently. Prefetching around current requests is not whole-book availability. Keep remote and local observations separate and retain existing downloads rather than deleting them merely to create a comparison.
Keep the simplest useful choice
Save a demonstrably useful simple value, reopen and check another book. Retain starting/final values, content type and reason. Revisit after meaningful environment changes. Returning to the original is a valid result, and unstable services should be investigated directly rather than hidden behind larger preload settings.
Acceptance and reporting
Finish with understood cold/cache results, stable current pages, acceptable waits and clear offline limits. More preloading cannot eliminate every service or image constraint. Report mode, content scale, network, value and steps with a shareable sample. Keep the rollback baseline instead of publishing a universal optimum.
