ManYue Read Later: organise a short to-read list

Build a three-title plan with Read Later, checking add, filter, resume and remove actions while distinguishing favourites, update following and offline downloads.

English translation of the Chinese original, translated on . The article body uses automated translation; app descriptions, historical reading notes and video subtitles receive separate editorial checks. Original publication dates, attribution, code and version notes are retained.

Read Later holds works you intend to read next, making it a short-term list rather than a long-term favorites collection. In ManYue, add comics you have found and choose from that separate scope. This article plans a weekend with three works, without creating more folders or copying comic files.

Keep Read Later narrowly focused

Choose three works from your library or added sources: one to continue, one to sample, and one for a longer session. Open each work's details first and confirm that its source remains reachable and its chapter list works. Read Later stores a planning relationship; it does not verify file completeness or prepare offline content for you.

Avoid turning this list into a second unlimited favorites collection. You might limit it to five works this week and remove items you have read or postponed. Keep long-term interests in Favorites, use update following for serial changes, and let Read Later guide your next choice. With clear roles, you do not need many similar groups for 'pending,' 'want to read,' and 'when I have time.'

Add a work through its menu

Find the work in the library, open its menu, and choose Add to Read Later. Check whether the menu changes to Remove from Read Later or shows the corresponding state, then switch to Read Later in the library and confirm the work is visible. Add works individually at first so you can identify which source version you selected.

If a title appears on multiple servers or comic sources, check the source and chapters first. Do not add several versions and later mistake them for a duplication error. List entries retain their source relationship; identical titles do not guarantee identical files, chapters, or history. To continue a version, choose the entry with your existing progress.

Start a specific reading session from the list

Open Read Later and select a work suited to the time available. With ten minutes, sample a first chapter; with half an hour, continue something you are already midway through. Check the starting chapter and page after opening it, ensuring Continue Reading does not refer to another same-title version. The list helps you choose; actual reading still uses the corresponding local or online source.

Exit the reader normally afterward and inspect the list. Do not assume an item disappears automatically just because it was opened once; retention should follow your plan. Keep a work if you read only the beginning and want to continue. If a sample no longer interests you for now, remove it while retaining any favorites or history you need.

Filter by source and reading state

As Read Later grows, use the source, group, or reading-state filters offered by the page. Start with one condition, such as locally readable items, inspect the result, then add another. If combined filters produce an empty list, remove one condition before concluding that the list was deleted.

Before going out, distinguish Read Later from offline readiness. Adding a plan does not download chapters, which still need a network connection. Download separately and check without a network if you want to take them with you. Even a downloaded first chapter does not make all subsequent chapters available offline. Match the planned scope to what you have actually prepared.

Remove an item after reading without deleting the work

Choose Remove from Read Later in the item's menu and confirm that it disappears from the list. Then check Favorites or the library to ensure the original work remains available. This changes a short-term plan; it does not delete local files or clear reading history. Use dedicated storage operations to free space rather than inferring file removal from a list button.

For batch organization, first check that the current account offers the capability and verify the selected count. Remove only items definitely completed or dropped from this week's plan, avoiding selections outside the current filter. Start with two at a time and inspect the result before expanding the scope.

Review the list once a week

At the end of the weekend, divide the list into three groups: remove completed works, retain those you are continuing, and return incidental discoveries without near-term plans to long-term Favorites. This does not require changing a work's read status unless you actually finished the relevant content. A smaller list makes the next decision easier.

You can also write a reason in your own notes, such as 'view the wide compositions on iPad this weekend' or 'read a short story while commuting.' ManYue's Read Later may not have a dedicated planning-note field, so do not search for a nonexistent entry point just for this sentence. The tool keeps the item; you can record why you kept it in the simplest way available.

Frequently asked questions

Does adding items to Read Later use much storage? A reading plan and the actual comic files are separate. Storage mainly depends on pages you separately download or import, not on the number of list entries. Removing an item from the list does not clear all its files.

Why can I not open a work in the list? Check whether the source still exists, the server is online, and the chapters have been downloaded. Read Later retains an entry point, not a guarantee that third-party content remains available. For something you definitely plan to read soon, obtaining a local copy you are entitled to use makes verification easier.

Does an empty list mean every book is finished? Not necessarily. Filters may be too narrow, entries may have been removed manually, or nothing may have been added. Clear the filters to inspect the full scope, then judge from actual reading. An empty list does not establish that everything has been read.
