Choose Book Isle conversion formats: prepare a readable companion copy

Choose EPUB, PDF or CBZ for text, fixed pages or images, retain originals and verify the converted edition.

Import support does not guarantee direct reading. Book Isle publicly lists MOBI, AZW, AZW3, CBR and DJVU for import, management, filtering and sync, recommending EPUB, PDF or CBZ for reading. Choose the target by content and relate it clearly to its original. A conversion-success message does not establish complete text.

Describe your reading goal in one sentence

Decide whether you need continuous text, original page diagrams or sequential scan images. Reflowable EPUB generally serves text; PDF can retain printed references and fixed layouts; CBZ can hold image pages. These are task-based choices, without guaranteeing perfect conversion from every source into any target.

Confirm the source opens in its original tool. Damage, missing pages or access protection may survive a container change. Use material and tools you are entitled to process; this workflow is not a protection-removal method. Keep originals in a known location and test copies so comparisons and rollback remain possible.

Choose EPUB for text-oriented books

Try EPUB first for novels and paragraph-based books, allowing mobile type adjustment. Check chapter hierarchy, paragraphs, punctuation and notes, beginning with a simple sample. Open the generated file in a suitable tool before importing it into Book Isle to avoid diagnosing two stages together.

Do not judge success by output size. Image, font and metadata changes affect size, while a missing paragraph may barely change it. Compare a middle chapter, one note and a final quotation; these content checks provide stronger evidence than the existence of an output file.

Choose PDF for page-based references

Prefer fixed-layout PDF for textbooks, diagrams and scans that lose structure when reflowed. Check page dimensions, orientation, boundaries and count alongside contents and appendices. Equal counts do not prove identical content; inspect wide tables, footers, binding-side text, formulas and notes for cropping and legibility.

PDF search depends on text layers and encoding. Images do not acquire accurate text merely by becoming PDF. Check numbers, units and names if an external tool adds recognition. For formal quotations compare the original page rather than carrying recognition errors into notes as if they were printed text.

Choose CBZ for image archives

For image-based material, obtain independently readable pages in a clear sequence and create a genuine CBZ with an appropriate tool. Check archive type, numbering and sequence after inserting covers. CBR and CBZ use different containers; changing a suffix does not convert compression.

Inspect first, middle and last images for orientation and clarity and verify spreads. If a damaged source prevents extraction of one page, record the gap and repair the source rather than duplicating a neighbour. A reader opening an archive demonstrates readability, without proving that all original images are present.

Preserve edition distinctions during import

After importing, check title, author and text edition. For duplicate or multiple-format suggestions, establish whether original and copy really belong together; matching names do not equate different translations or abridgements. Record original, output, conversion date and primary reading format in your own list.

Changing shelf display names does not fix internal contents or missing chapters. Converted files need not inherit accurate old locations: paragraphs, images and chapter identifiers may change. Preserve old notes as readable records and use chapters and quotations to find their corresponding new locations.

Cross-check actual content

Compare punctuation in a passage, one image, a contents jump and the last chapter against the original. For image material, check sequence, edges and last page instead. Record differences by their effect on your task; decorative font changes and missing paragraphs have different consequences despite similar-looking output.

Reopen illustrated material offline to expose external image dependencies. Search a known short sentence in text material and check context; verify printed and file numbering for PDF. Checks should follow the target format rather than demanding identical search and text selection from every file type.

Keep a reversible storage structure

Retain original, converted copy and check record in clear locations with edition or date names. Read the verified copy and keep the original for future processing. Conversion and Book Isle sync are separate: matching titles across devices do not establish matching readable files.

If conversion remains unsuitable, obtain a better legitimate copy or use the original tool rather than sacrificing completeness for uniform shelf formats. Completion means understanding the format choice, checked content and unresolved differences, rather than renaming all files to one extension.
