Book Isle OPDS catalogue audit: verify metadata, formats and acquired files

Sample known books in an existing OPDS feed, verify attribution, edition and acquisition links, and compare the downloaded contents rather than trusting catalogue matches.

English translation of the Chinese original, translated on . Original publication dates, attribution, code and version notes are retained.

A working OPDS feed can still contain inaccurate metadata or acquisition links. Audit a few known editions in an established private catalogue, compare actual files and identify the faulty layer instead of treating a local rename as a server correction.

Choose samples with known originals

Choose a few authorised originals with known metadata, including useful edge cases such as translations or revisions. Record title, creator, translator, edition and format. Keep sampling limits explicit and establish the reference before inspecting the app instead of guessing from unfamiliar covers.

Compare fields individually

Inspect title, creator and visible detail fields. Supplement unavailable translator/edition fields externally instead of inventing controls. Distinguish missing metadata, wrong metadata and truncated/not-displayed fields. Preserve the original feed observation before local edits obscure its source.

Check acquisition formats and link roles

Distinguish actual acquisition from detail or purchase pages and choose a supported reading format. Record format and edition before acquiring. Management-only support is not automatically a catalogue defect. Start with a locally verified format and inspect other links separately.

Compare publication and contents pages after download

Acquire one sample and compare publication information, translator, contents and opening text. Verify middle/end readability too. A successful download can still deliver another edition. Use visual inspection for scans and report only necessary metadata differences rather than sharing entire books.

Verify that alternate formats match

Compare translator, edition and a chosen chapter across formats. Pagination differences can be normal, while changed text or missing extras require explanation. Do not merge and delete distinct revisions for tidy grouping. Record correspondence without assuming extension changes can correct mismatched links.

Repair the correct metadata layer

Correct the authorised server metadata through its normal process or report it to the maintainer. Local organisation does not repair the OPDS source. Recheck the same item/link after refresh, preserving before/after fields and actual-file results while keeping account and path stable.

Keep a reusable sample inventory

Keep date, source, samples, checked fields and untested links. Reuse known-good items alongside new ones after updates. Manage downloaded copies separately from source metadata and backups. A repeatable limited audit is more useful than filling every field without evidence.

Acceptance and common mistakes

Finish with traceable item/link/content correspondence and explicit defects. Covers or title matches do not prove edition identity, and unsupported reading formats do not necessarily indicate broken OPDS. Report the precise item, field, link and difference without claiming whole-catalogue assurance.
