ManYue file formats: choose CBZ, CBR, CB7 or PDF and check page order

Distinguish comic archives, PDFs and image folders, organise filenames and chapter structure, then check the cover, page count and spreads after importing.

English translation of the Chinese original, translated on . The article body uses automated translation; app descriptions, historical reading notes and video subtitles receive separate editorial checks. Original publication dates, attribution, code and version notes are retained.

The same comic may be stored as an image folder, archive, or PDF. Choose based on completeness, ease of inspection, and consistency with your library—not how professional an extension looks. ManYue publicly lists CBZ, CBR, CB7, ZIP, RAR, 7z, and PDF. These are recognized types, not a promise that every encrypted, split, or damaged variant works.

Identify what you have first

Prepare a file you created or are entitled to read. Keep the original and organize a copy. In Files, inspect its full name and size and determine whether it is a file or directory. The filename suffix .cbz usually denotes a ZIP container for comics, while .cbr corresponds to RAR, and .cb7 corresponds to 7z. PDF is a document with its own page structure. The organization of images and folders inside an archive still determines whether it produces sensible comic chapters.

Do not rename an arbitrary file to CBZ as a conversion method. Changing the extension does not change the data and makes diagnosis harder. If the original reads correctly, import a copy to establish a baseline before considering conversion. Use trusted document or archive tools for conversion; this guide does not treat the app as a universal repair tool.

Choose for the task instead of repeatedly converting

Keep an existing complete PDF as PDF initially: its fixed page order suits scans or self-typeset material. Check margins and rotation rather than rebuilding the book to remove a small border. For original image sets, a clear folder or ordinary comic archive makes individual pages easier to verify. Try existing CBR or CB7 files on a small scale without recompressing an entire library merely for consistent extensions.

If an archive contains further archives, inspect its chapter structure. Nested packaging may represent a collection or merely a download wrapper. Open the outer directory to locate the actual comics; extracting the shell does not prove the inner files are directly readable pages. Obtain passwords lawfully and verify protected files in your own tools rather than repeatedly changing their extensions after import fails.

Organize image names and chapter boundaries

Number your own images consistently, for example 001.jpg, 002.jpg through 036.jpg; multiple chapters can use 01-开场, 02-旅途 and similar consistent names. ManYue's local importer sorts image and chapter names, but clear numbering still prevents confusion during manual checks. Stable filenames also help compare with the originals later.

Do not mix finished pages, drafts, thumbnails, and duplicate exports in one chapter folder. Move supplementary files outside the organizing copy. Keep a cover separately if needed, but decide whether it counts as page one; do not duplicate it just to make the count look right. For separately scanned left and right pages, verify each image's order. Reading direction cannot repair reversed source numbering.

Verify import with a small sample

Choose a small sample through the home screen's local-comic import control and confirm the target bookshelf. After import, inspect the cover and opening content, then jump to the middle and final page. Compare the app's page count with the original image count or PDF pages. Investigate cover-count differences before assuming pages are missing.

Exit and reopen the reader to confirm the same imported content remains. For a chapter-based comic, inspect two chapters, their names, and each chapter's beginning and end. Only after the sample passes should you organize the remaining files similarly. Separating format support from this particular book's organization avoids discovering scrambled page order after importing dozens of books.

Example: organize a self-made travel comic

Suppose you have thirty-six pages you drew and one cover, all with camera-generated filenames. First copy them into 旅行短篇-整理副本, renaming content pages in reading order and retaining a numbering list. Import the image folder or package it with a trusted tool. At page ten, compare against the original list to verify the same image, then confirm that the final page is the ending.

If a two-page spread pairs images incorrectly, return to single-page view and check the sequence. Adjust reading direction and the separate-first-page setting only when individual pages are in order. If the order itself is wrong, correct a copy and reimport it. Do not change the global direction to conceal one book's internal problem, since that affects other works.

Completion checks and limitations

Confirm that the file is independently saved, import has no failed items, beginning/middle/end pages open, and chapter and page order are correct. Retain source files for long-term recovery. The reading copy is for daily use; the original is for restoration. A visible cover does not prove completeness, and extension support is not a guarantee for every compression setting.

Will converting a large file to CBZ always make it faster?

No. Loading also depends on page count, image dimensions, compression, and device resources. Verify a small file of the same format first, then check whether the problem is limited to this book. Blind conversion may re-encode images and reduce clarity.

Should I immediately delete and reimport when page counts differ?

Check the cover, contents pages, and chapter counts, then open the corresponding positions to confirm any actual omission. Keep the original before handling the failed copy, and avoid creating repeated same-named books before diagnosing the cause. Reimporting a file with incorrect page order does not repair it.
