Getting started

Import image folders into ManYue: one book or separate chapters

Choose the correct folder level for a single image book, chapter folders or multiple comic files, avoiding missed imports and incorrect grouping from mixed structures.

Image folders are useful for comic pages you scanned, drew, or are authorized to use. Individual files are directly visible, and problems are easier to spot: selecting the wrong folder level may turn a collection into one book, while mixing loose pages and chapter folders may make the reading structure ambiguous. A few minutes organizing the hierarchy before import is usually easier than correcting books individually afterward.

Prepare an organized copy that you can inspect

Copy the materials into a separate working folder first and leave the originals untouched. Confirm that the images have downloaded to the current device rather than existing only as cloud filenames. Choose a small chapter as a sample and leave enough room for saved copies. On your first attempt, avoid selecting a master folder containing years of material: you need to know how many books and chapters to expect from this import.

Choose one of three structures first: all pages directly inside one folder; several chapter folders inside a book folder; or several already packaged comic files inside one folder. Avoid mixing these structures arbitrarily. Folder names express book titles, chapter names express chapter order, and image names express page order. Giving each level one role makes later checks easier.

Import one level of images as one book

Create a folder such as 练习短篇 and place sequentially numbered images inside it. Move temporary drafts, duplicate low-resolution exports, and unrelated documents elsewhere. Open “Import Local Comics,” choose “Select Folder,” select this book's folder in the system picker, and confirm the target bookshelf.

If a recognition or preview page appears, check that the displayed item matches your expectation of one book. After import, inspect the book's beginning and end; selecting the folder successfully is not completion. If no valid comics are found, check whether readable images are actually in the folder rather than inside another same-named nested folder. Open an image in Files to confirm that it is not an empty placeholder.

Group several chapters under one book

Create a main folder for the book, and place 01-第一章, 02-第二章, with pages directly inside each chapter folder. Avoid many unclear nested levels within chapters, since excessive nesting makes it difficult for the importer to distinguish a chapter from another work. When selecting the book's main folder, inspect the recognized chapters or splitting method in the preview and decide whether it matches the original structure.

Do not place loose content pages directly in the book's root folder while also keeping chapter subfolders there. The current import logic rejects this ambiguous structure; move root-level content pages into clearly defined chapter folders. A root-level cover serves a special purpose and does not imply that all root images can be mixed with chapters. After reorganizing, check the starting pages of the first and second chapters before inspecting the entire work.

When one folder contains several comic archives

For example, 待读样本 contains 短篇A.cbz, 短篇B.cbr and 短篇C.pdf, it is better treated as a batch import of multiple comic files. After selecting the folder, check the expected count and import results. If it also contains images or deeper subfolders, the interface may say that only supported comic files at the top level are processed. Do not assume that every subfolder is imported recursively.

For books deeper in the hierarchy, selecting the relevant folders in batches is clearer than choosing the outermost folder at once. Process one structure at a time to track completed batches more easily. Inspect failed items afterward rather than reimporting an entire partly successful batch and creating similarly named duplicates. For uncertain combinations, importing files individually is a predictable fallback.

Example: organize two chapters of drawing exercises into one volume

Suppose you have twenty-four images for chapter one, eighteen for chapter two, and two discarded sketches. Move the sketches outside the import folder, create two sequentially named chapter folders, and select their common parent. Confirm the recognition method, then add the book to a bookshelf group called “Practice Archive.” This group organizes items within the app; it does not reorganize external folders for you.

After import, open the last page of the first chapter and then the first page of the second, checking for duplicates or omissions at the boundary. Return to the contents list and check the chapter names. Finally, exit and reopen the book to confirm a stable entry. If it became two books, review the structure selection and folder hierarchy used during import. Understand the cause before removing unwanted copies, and avoid experimental deletions of originals.

Final checks and later maintenance

Record the title, chapter count, pages per chapter, and source folder during your checks. These help you identify duplicates and missing content during the next update. Manage originals, organized copies, and in-app reading copies separately. After updating the original images, do not assume that imported copies change automatically; check the actual results after reimporting or replacing them.

Why are some subfolders missing after I select the main folder?

First check whether supported comic files already exist at the top level. A mixed directory may be processed as a batch of top-level files rather than recursively without limit. Select unprocessed subfolders separately and check the expected book count. This usually isolates the problem more effectively than repeatedly choosing the same outermost folder.

If a folder imports as several books, can I combine them into one directly on the bookshelf?

Bookshelf groups categorize items; they do not merge book files or chapters. To create one work with multiple chapters, establish the correct chapter hierarchy in your organized copy and confirm the result in the import preview. Identical group names are not evidence that files have merged.
