Notes and reference upkeep
Book Isle figure references: connect numbers, pages and reading notes
Verify figures against captions and text references, retaining edition and location instead of relying on unlabelled screenshots.

Remembering a diagram without its chapter makes review difficult. Connect figure numbers, captions, textual explanations and notes in an owned illustrated reference. This workflow verifies sources and locations without claiming automatic figure-number recognition or cross-figure indexing.
Confirm the edition and numbering scheme
Choose a numbered illustrated PDF/EPUB and identify edition and numbering conventions, including separate figure/table sequences. Select an ordinary figure, wide/spread figure and table. Retain the file. Personal IDs are acceptable for unnumbered material only when clearly labelled as personal rather than attributed to the source.
Record number, title and location together
Read the full caption and record number, title, chapter and verifiable location. Distinguish PDF file/printed pages and use nearby text for EPUB. Check suffixes and subpanels carefully. Save enough information in a note or list to locate the source even without an image, rather than guessing a cropped caption later.
Trace the textual reference back to the figure
Find the relevant textual reference and determine exactly which part it discusses. Record a short locating quotation and confirm the figure ID. Use supported bookmarks or contents navigation instead of assuming a dedicated figure browser. Verify both directions before interpreting the figure from appearance alone.
Inspect axes, units and legend meaning
Read axes, units, legend and notes before recording observations, without converting a trend into a causal claim. Zoom through supported reading controls and verify uncropped labels. Seek a clearer matching source for blurred originals. Preserve table headers and footnotes and distinguish personal observations from the author’s scope.
Separate source statements from interpretation
Structure notes as source fields, quotation/paraphrase and personal questions. Label inference separately. Hand-record and verify where text selection is unavailable rather than relying on unverified recognition. Do not fill omitted conditions with invented facts. Mark unresolved symbols explicitly and retain context for later clarification.
Keep provenance with any screenshot
For permitted image copies, record book, figure ID and revision in the filename or companion note. Screenshots do not replace originals or note exports and do not inherit app-lock protection automatically. Retain necessary captions/units, state crop scope and follow actual permission requirements for public use.
Cross-check locations with all three sample types
Complete note→figure→caption/text→note checks for the ordinary figure, wide figure and table using available controls. Verify full spread coverage and table footnotes. Record tested and unresolved cases without generalising one success to the whole book. Reopen important exported notes and inspect provenance fields.
Diagnose mismatches through nearby figures and edition
Check transcription, neighbouring captions and editions before rebuilding records. Reestablish locations against originals after conversion reorders content. Recover missing units from the source rather than guessing. Document specific missing figures. Audit notes as edition, figure ID, textual basis and personal interpretation.
