Book Isle illustrated references: distinguish exterior, section and exploded views
Map prose references and labels to the correct view, recording cut surfaces, hidden edges and schematic scale rather than transferring one image’s coordinates to another.
On this page
Exterior, section and exploded views can share a page, while “inside” may refer to another view. Build a view-reference log for a toy or fictional structure in Book Isle and test the prose’s target. This is reading, not manufacturing or repair from drawings. The app helps return to text/images without automatic part recognition, 3D reconstruction or technical validation.
List figure numbers, view names and prose locations
Choose two or three related authorised illustrations and record book, edition, chapter, figure number, subfigure letter, caption and referring phrase. Separate A/B/C subfigures instead of using one page-level number. Keep printed and file-page numbers for PDF or chapter anchors for reflow. Begin with a toy box or fictional structure, excluding bodily, electrical and repair material. Mark an unspecified view type unresolved; internal lines alone do not establish a section, and familiar nouns do not justify skipping the caption.
Identify what each view shows and omits
Exterior views often emphasise surfaces, sections may remove material and exploded views may separate parts, following this book’s explanation. Log cut surface, cavity, visible/hidden lines and labels without calling all omissions holes. In an invented example, A shows a closed box, B removes the front wall to expose the cavity, and C raises the lid for an exploded explanation. These can be representations of one structure rather than action sequence. Keep alternatives and do not impose these simplified categories as universal drafting rules.
Bind demonstratives to a specific subfigure
Bind here, left, inner wall and “as in B” to a specific image, retaining surrounding wording and target label. Left may be viewer-relative or object-relative; do not switch it without an established convention. B’s omitted front wall cannot be located by A’s left exterior edge. Record alternatives and check captions/prose order instead of assigning the nearest convenient figure. Label added personal identifiers as paraphrase rather than official author labels.
Check part identity across views
Use explicit labels, connections and shape, with colour only supporting identity. Recover orientation after a rotated view before comparing left/right; identical screen position does not identify a part. Add chapter for reset numbering and note simplification. Exterior invisibility does not establish absence, nor does section exposure establish transparency. Check one or two relations such as lid/opening without proving the mechanism operational. Leave unknown functions unresolved instead of adding unseen parts from general knowledge.
Separate illustrative spacing from actual dimensions
An exploded lid may be far away for identification, not real assembled spacing. Inspect dimensions, units and not-to-scale labels, otherwise call it schematic. Section area does not establish volume without depth and scale. Attach stated numbers to their particular quantity rather than every edge in another view. The task is reference and relationship understanding, not manufacturing judgement; detailed images and many labels do not supply absent tolerances, materials or operational requirements.
Leave and return to test text–image matching
Save supported references or external locations for the prose, caption and two decisive subfigures, with letters and stable labels. Leave the reader, go text-to-image and image-to-text, and read surrounding wording to exclude a same-numbered different chapter. Preserve both pages for spreads and attribution for crops/screenshots, which do not replace a full caption. Reopen exported notes to check A/B/C matching, direction words and uncertainty labels. Recheck numbering and arrangement after revisions without automatic migration assumptions.
Classify apparent cross-view conflicts first
For a same-labelled part with differing shapes, check viewpoint, section plane, simplification and edition before alleging error. A principle schematic and exterior view may not share detail, but that does not explain every contradiction automatically. Classify explained, still mismatched and insufficient-information cases with particular edges or labels. Report an authorised sample and source location, not your repainted correction as evidence. Establish where text and views connect and where they do not, without forcing consistency for a tidy conclusion.
Finish view identity and explanatory scope checks
Finish with view types, prose targets, key part mappings and absent dimensions. Internal lines may be hidden edges or transparency; separated parts may be explanatory rather than action; left cannot transfer across changed viewpoints. Retain unresolved questions and inspected captions instead of editing the source to force agreement. Deliver one recoverable text–image conclusion, not a claim of actual disassembly verification or software 3D recognition.
